A trailer is supposed to cause excitement about the movie or game it’s about. With the Honest Game Trailer series on the Fandom Games channel, they’ve parodied that idea and given us trailers with their honest opinions on popular or interesting games. Honest Game Trailers manages to point out things about my favorite games that I might not have noticed or even thought about, but in a way that makes it funny and relatable.
They make the mundane events that most people simply accept in games laugh worthy. When they make trailers about games that I know I’ll never play, I’ll still watch to see odd quirks in other games, have a laugh, and learn a little bit about the game, all in a fun entertaining package. Somehow, this series manages to point out all the silly flaws within a game but still makes it seem like an enjoyable game. The series will make trailers for just about any game as long as it has enough of an audience to watch. They will even go outside of the game mold and make parody trailers about things related, like gaming systems. The thing that really ties the whole series together is the Honest Game Trailer voice over. The channel has found someone to do their voice over who has the perfect movie trailer voice — the kind of voice that makes things seem epic and bigger than life. On top of being the perfect trailer voice, the voice over still manages to keep the video sarcastic and lighthearted. Honest Game Trailers are able to cover a lot of bases with these videos by providing humor, gameplay, comparisons, and the experience you got or might get when picking up that game.
This series fits right in with Fandom Games' other content. They have series on game easter eggs, gaming communities, speed-runs, gaming facts and history — all things that gamers are interested in. A subscriber can go from one series to the next and expect to enjoy similar content. Fandom Games knows their audience well and with Honest Game Trailers, they can poke fun at the gaming community. Their videos are not only entertainment, but they humble a few massively renowned games and show that at the core of video games, it’s all entertainment.
