The New Voice for Indie-Filmmakers

Written by Jackson Richardson | March 17, 2020

In the realm of filmmaking, vlogging, and all things cameras, one video series in particular stands out. Peter McKinnon is a Canadian, indie-filmmaker and photographer best known for his brazen on-screen persona, love of coffee, and expert-level knowledge in the modern canon of film and photography. His channel can be found on Youtube, under the self-title, Peter McKinnon.

Despite the delivery of fresh, daily content, Pete is both informative and inspiring to his general audience. He expresses an openness to creativity followed by sincerity and honesty as to what you may be doing wrong — and the things you can do to thrive in the rapidly advancing business of filmmaking/photography. His following has grown immensely over the past 5 years and his image has resonated social media in powerful ways. Not long after his series hit the Tube, it became clear that others were starting to create series based off his style and approach. His most noted series within his series is "Two Minute Tuesdays."

Funnily enough, these videos are never two minutes long — in fact, they often extend to 15 minute episodes. Pete is consistent with this content release every Tuesday, and the content is always new and engaging. Whether it's tips and tricks, technology reviews, or just a simple update on his life, it has gained a lot of attention and positive feedback in the community. Not only have I learned a great deal of knowledge from this series, but so have many other enthusiasts worldwide.

So, I think it's fair to say that at 4.4 million subscribers, Peter McKinnon has made a name for himself in the industry as a spokesperson and leader for the indie, cinematography crowds.
